Scale Robotics

About Us

Who we are:

We are two self acknowledged geeks, who have the same passion for designing and building electronic devices and components. In true geek fashion, we met in a compiler forum ... then arranged to be business partners from opposite sides of the country, and have yet to meet each other face to face. However, we have a synergy together that compliments each other very well.

Bert Lewis:

Born and raised in Annapolis MD, Bert has had a passion for Robotics since seeing R2D2 on screen (yes the first time). Since then, Bert has made his education and career revolve around building electro-mechanical gadgets. While running a manufacturing machine shop for the last 20 years, Bert knows how to bring efficiency to processes. This allows Scale Robotics to bring you products that can compete in a world market while still having the quality demanded by us and by YOU, our customers.

Walter Dunckel:

Born and raised in Silicon Valley, Walter's first electronics assembly was building a Heathkit H-89 computer. Walter attended the University of Arizona, pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree. Later, after receiving his Ham Radio operator's license (KD6VYV), he became more interested in electronics, and in 1993, began programming microcontrollers. One of his first microcontroller projects was programming a PIC using assembly language which transmitted the acceleration of a model rocket to his ham radio, while a laptop recorded the results.

Our philosophy:

We want to bring innovative new products to you at a reasonable cost. Our in house production facilities lets us bring ideas from thought to reality, in just a few days. This way, we are in control of our production. We don't have to call or email another country, just need look across the shop. We are the end users of the products we sell, giving us a good idea of what we can improve on, what we like, and what we don't like. We listen and can react to our customers that make comments or suggestions.

Our capabilities:

We are very excited about our recent acquisition of an automated pick and place machine, and a 5 zone automated oven! This gives us full control of production times, and takes out a third party service. It lets us bring innovative new products to you sooner, while keeping production costs down. All our circuit boards are made in the USA, and assembled at our shop in Maryland.

Here are some recent pictures while we get a new SMT manufacuring room ready to house the equipment ....
